Historia wprowadzenia do fizyki pojecia fotonu obejmuje okres 27 lat. Rozpoczął ja Max Planck w roku 1900 postulując istnienie kwantów energii promieniowania ciała doskonale czarnego. Pięć lat później Albert Einstein wykorzystał idee Plancka do wyjaśnienia fotoefektu. W 1924 roku Arthur Compton wprowadził pojęcie zlokalizowanych kwantów światła do opisu oddziaływania światła z elektronami. Nazwę foton zaproponował Gilbert Lewis dopiero w 1926 roku. Abstract
The history of the introduction of the concept of photon into physics covers a period of 27 years. It was started by Max Planck in 1900, postulating the existence of black body radiation energy quanta. Five years later, Albert Einstein used Planck's ideas to explain the photo effect. In 1924, Arthur Compton introduced the concept of localized light quanta to describe the interaction of light with electrons. The name photon was proposed by Gilbert Lewis only in 1926. These stories culminate in Paul Dirac's 1927 article on the quantum theory of the electromagnetic field.
